Jeni Rector, LM, CPM, DEM
Jeni began practicing as a midwife in 2005. She became a Certified Professional Midwife in August of 2007 and the 31st Licensed Midwife in the Commonwealth of Virginia shortly thereafter! Before that, she held two apprenticeships, one with a Licensed CPM and one with a CNM. Jeni has attended over 480 women as a midwife, birth attendant and doula since 2000.
Jeni became a preceptor in 2008 and has currently “birthed” 5 working CPMs. Jeni also serves as a preceptor for numerous midwifery colleges, as well as providing the OB portion of the Nurse Practitioner program for 3 universities.
Jeni has been married for 28 years, she has 7 children, 2 son-in-laws and 3 grandchildren. She is a huge animal lover and is the mom to 4 dogs, 3 cats, 1 pig, 2 guinea pigs, 2 rats and a hamster.
Jeni is active in her church and in the local community. She is an advocate for Veteran’s with PTSD, PPD, mental health, moms who are breastfeeding, teaching that circumcision is not necessary, and equal access to maternity care. She is also very involved in the midwifery community with things such as education, legislation and politics.
When Jeni is not helping moms, hanging with her kids or grands, or chasing animals, you will find her fishing, shooting, sleeping or binge watching strange documentaries! She also enjoys singing and dancing but usually makes up her own lyrics and dance moves.
She has given birth under just about every circumstance there is (read her birth stories here) so she feels like she can certainly relate to ALL pregnant and laboring women.
She is a member of the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood.
She is a member of the Virginia Midwives Alliance.
She is a member of the International Cesarean Awareness Network.
