Your prenatal and postpartum care is the same high-quality, relationship-centered support across all locations of birth. For a detailed breakdown of what these visits include, visit our Prenatal Care and Postpartum Care Service Pages.
When contractions begin or your water releases, you’ll reach out to us so we can stay connected and guide you through early labor. Many families choose to labor privately or with the support of a doula—we provide a list of trusted doulas upon request.
To ensure you feel fully prepared, we ask that all home birth clients have either experienced an unmedicated birth before, completed an approved childbirth education course, or hired a doula for additional support.
Your birth space is yours. You’re welcome to invite anyone who brings you comfort—partners, children, friends, or family. If you wish, you or your partner can even be the one to “catch” your baby as they enter the world.
What to Expect During Home Birth Labor
Your baby will be placed directly into your arms for uninterrupted bonding. There is no rush—cord clamping waits until you’re ready. We support initial breastfeeding if desired, help you get settled, and remain with you for at least two hours (or longer if needed) to ensure both you and your baby are stable, nourished, and comfortable.
We leave you tucked in, fed, and supported, with full instructions on what to expect in the hours and days after birth. And of course, we remain available 24/7 for any questions or concerns that arise.
All required birth documents, including the birth certificate and Social Security card, are filed on your behalf so you can simply focus on healing and bonding.

As many as you feel comfortable.

Labor is defined by regular contractions causing cervical change. Contractions will typically start far apart and progressively become more frequent and stronger over time. As contractions become closer, they will also increase in intensity and duration. Once you begin to have contractions, typically they last one minute from the start to the end of the contraction. Once they are five minutes apart give us a call and let us know. Your water may break once this process has begun or before you show any signs of labor. If your water breaks at any time, let us know so that we may advise you further. Finally, if you have any heavy bleeding towards the end of your pregnancy please call us.
-
When you alert us that you believe you are in labor, we will discuss what is going on and how you are feeling. Together, we will decide when we should come.
-
If you are truly in labor, we will be there until 2-3 hours after the birth.

Absolutely!!!!!!

We encourage you to be in whatever positions you find most helpful during labor—whether it’s squatting, kneeling, walking, or otherwise.
-
Some things that help are changing positions, massage, sitting on the birth ball, walking, and laboring in the birth tub. We are also strong advocates of hiring a doula regardless of where you decide to give birth.

We do not currently accept clients with a twin pregnancy—but if you are fond of our practice, we can connect you with any number of lovely midwives who can emulate the same midwifery care.
